About

I am a Chinese American living in China, the country where I grew up. My husband is a boda fide American expat. That makes me a trailing spouse by all accounts.

We live our expat life in Shanghai with our two young children, where I continue to take on the familiar role in life, a nurturing mother. While not having the usual issues faced by other trailing spouses such as career challenges and debilitating language and cultural effects, I do have to adjust (big time!) to this culture that I left behind two decades ago. Very often, I find myself a stranger in my homeland.

My blog is about our new life in Shanghai with a cross-cultural focus. I write about events and anecdotes that foreigners may find interesting, amusing, taken aback, or just plain good to know. I am hoping my background can help whoever stumbles into my blog navigate through the minefield of Chinese etiquette, customs and culture. Having said that, this blog is also about anything and everything that happens in our lives in Shanghai. I write about special people, beautiful places and memorable occasions.

I hope you will find something interesting every time you check in. Please feel free to email me with any questions or thoughts.

I welcome your thoughts
